Belper Town edged a close encounter with Corby Town to secure their first home win under Aaron Webster's stewardship, and their first for almost two months, writes Nigel Oldrini.

Webster selected the same starting eleven that did so well at Alvechurch however there was one change on the bench as Alex Steadman was fit again and replaced Kieran O'Connell who was absent from the squad following his move to South Normanton Athletic on a dual registration basis in midweek.

It was Corby Town's first outing since New Year's day and the first time The Steelman have visited the Marston's Stadium in recent memory.

Belper showed up well in the early stages with Sam Birks trying to hit the ball over the advancing Corby 'keeper Sam Wilson inside the first two minutes.

Good play from the Nailers ended with Lee Williamson crossing the ball into space but unfortunately there wasn't a yellow shirt to take advantage of it.

There was an unusual incident in the 14th minute when the ball bounced up and hit the hand of Max Thornberry inside the penalty area and although the referee immediately pointed to the spot, he had to retract his decision as his assistant had previously flagged Leon Lobjoit offside.

Both sides cancelled each other out as the half wore on but Corby had the better of the shooting opportunities although neither Steven Leslie or Jordan Crawford could get their efforts on target in 25th and 34th minutes respectively.

Callum Lloyd had Belper's best effort on the stroke of half time with a ground shot from 15 yards that Sam Wilson gathered comfortably enough.
The Nailers improved after the break and they caused the Steelmen many more problems than they had in the first half.

Lee Williamson set the tone with a snap shot over the top almost straight from the restart, then Sam Birks had a great opportunity to cement his hardworking display in the 51st minute after Callum Lloyd supplied the pass, but the young striker couldn't find power in his shot and Wilson saved comfortably.

Williamson created Belper's next opportunity with a good run and cross that Birks headed back into the six yard area, where Leandro Browne was unfortunate with his over head scissor kick that struck the top of the crossbar.

Sam Birks had a half chance following Dominic Allen's cross reach him but again he couldn't get his shot away, and following a speedy Corby counterattack, the Nailers were thankful for Danny Roberts bundling away an angled drive from Jordan Crawford.

The breakthrough arrived on 74 minutes thanks to good work from Dylan Garnett who wrested the ball away from the full back and his cross was fired high into the net by Lee Williamson who scored his third goal in two games.

Belper searched for a second goal to wrap things up but the Steelmen, not unsurprisingly had other ideas, and pressed forward for an equaliser.
There were a few anxious moments either side of the 83rd minute when the visitors forced a number of corner kicks, but after the Nailers had survived these, the remainder of the game, including over 6 minutes added on time was managed well by Aaron Webster's men.
