Belper Town recovered from a 1-0 half time deficit and staged an impressive comeback to record a sixth consecutive victory.

Jon Froggatt's header flies over Kidsgrove 'keeper Steve Hodgson for the Belper striker's 24th goal of the campaign

The Nailers had to make enforced changes to the starting line-up for this game against Kidsgrove with Chris Adam and Richard Adams missing through suspension and injury respectively.

Karl Colley retained his place after making his debut as a substitute the previous week against Market Drayton Town, while Alton Rennalls came in on the right side of midfield.

Aaron Pride was back in contention on the bench after a lengthy absence brought about by a suspension that was extended because of the bad weather in February.

The Nailers recent good form has seen them leapfrog Kidsgrove in the league table and they were looking to avenge a 2-0 defeat at the Seddon Stadium last December.

Steve Warne hit a snap shot in the 3rd minute as the Nailers got off to a brisk start and an Andy Rushbury corner kick shaved the cross bar moments later.

Steve Hodgson had to stretch to push a Charlie Weir cross away for a corner, and Kidsgrove struggled to get the ball away when Belper attacked again in the 13th minute.

Alton Rennalls brought the crowd to their feet with a good shot that was deflected and moments later fired just over from the resulting corner kick.

It was one way traffic at this stage and in the 20th minute the ball bobbled around in the visitor’s six yard area before being cleared following another corner kick, and the Nailers really needed a goal to show for all their pressure.

Jon Froggatt turned well inside the penalty area but found the angle too tight then Dan White, still up field following a corner kick might have latched on to an error by a Kidsgrove defender, but couldn’t react quick enough.

Kidsgrove had their first chance in the 30th minute when Craig Dove’s cross found Andy Kinsey running in at the far post, but the Kidsgrove striker put his header wide of the post.

The visitors had slowly worked their way into the game as the half wore on but the opening goal in the 45th minute came out of the blue when Karl Charlton out jumped everyone to head Ross Davidson’s free kick just inside the post.

The Nailers emerged for the second half needing to make a quick impact and certainly enjoyed the lion’s share of possession in the early stages.

However the early momentum faded and Kidsgrove strung their passes together more effectively, but Danny Smith’s wayward effort on 55 minutes still meant that the visitor’s had only managed one direct effort on goal.

However the Nailers got the equaliser their first half performance had warranted when Jon Froggatt jumped to head Greg Wright’s lob into the box past Steve Hodgson in the 57th minute, and they never looked back.

The goal did wonders for Belper and they forged ahead in the 61st minute when an under pressure Kidsgrove could only clear the ball to Steve Warne just outside the penalty area, and he hit a controlled shot just inside the post.

The Nailers extended their lead in the 65th minute when Alton Rennalls finished an excellent move started by Andy Rushbury, who found Jon Froggatt, and he crossed for Alton Rennalls to race in and convert.

Kidsgrove’s attacks had become more sporadic and in the 79th minute Karl Charlton hit a wild volley high and wide, then moments later Jon Froggatt did really well to control the ball and lay it off to Alton Rennalls, but the Belper winger totally missed his kick.

Liam Shotton might have reduced the arrears in the 87th minute with a shot on the turn that skated just past the far post, but the visitors had never looked like staging a fight back.

Belper had to defend a succession of corner kicks in the final minutes but with Aaron Chapman dominant in his six yard area there was no doubt the Belper would extend their impressive record of eight wins in ten games.
