Final day canter for Belper
Belper Town rounded off their season with a comfortable home victory over Cammell Laird but their hopes of a play off place had evaporated seven days earlier.
Aaron Pride and Ollie Warren were given starts, possibly an indication that they will be more involved in first team action next season, but leading goal scorer Lee Stevenson was a notable absentee leaving little doubt that he would be plying his trade somewhere else when the new campaign starts in August.
Tom Naylor (pictured) was crowned Supporters’ Player of the Year after the game and it was he who nearly got the game off to a good start when he ran through only to have the ball taken off his toe as he was about to shoot.
Ollie Warren had a half chance in the 10th minute but couldn’t control his lob over the ‘keeper and the opportunity was lost.
Lairds’ ‘keeper Phil Palethorpe was a busy man for most of the game but it wasn’t until the 32nd minute when he was beaten by a fierce ground shot from Tom Naylor
