After a wonderful advertisement for the Evo-Stik Division 1 South at the Grove on Saturday afternoon, the Nailers came away celebrating after a terrific performance which saw them gain all three points with a 4-3 victory over table toppers Halesowen Town,

Manager Peter Duffield called upon the services of Kieran Wells and Aaron Cole to start for the Nailers, with Mark Ward and Simon Harrison dropping to the bench for the first time this calendar year.

It was the home side who began the flow of goals, as the Yeltz took the lead after 14 minutes with a wonder strike by Neil Mackenzie.

A corner from the right looped in by Aaron Griffiths and headed away by Steve Warne as far as Asa Charlton who squared the pass to Mackenzie, who fired home a thunderous strike from 25 yards into the far left corner and left goalkeeper Scott Low rooted to the spot.

The Nailers reacted superbly after going behind with the two wide men continuously causing problems for the opposing fullbacks.

A deserved equalising goal then came for Belper after 25 minutes, with the Nailers new number 10 justifying his place in the starting line up with a clinical finish.

A corner from the right by Aaron Cole was cut out by the first man, however Cole’s second attempt at the cross was delivered with devilish pace towards the back post. Colin Marrison met it with a header back across goal and Kieran Wells was on hand from seven yards out to angle in a fine header towards the bottom right corner, beyond the reach of Matthew Sargeant.

The Nailers took the lead four minutes before half time after sustained pressure on the home side proved too much to handle.

An Aaron Cole corner from the right was again whipped towards the back post for Dan White to head back across. Wells then got the flick on to the six yard box where Phil Watt came in to smash a volley that cannoned off the underside of the bar, but Jon Froggatt reacted first to head the ball over the line and send the away fans into rapturous applause.

But the lead was quashed on the stroke of half time. Asa Charlton curled in a cross from the left hand side for Steve Warne to head away, however his clearance could only go as far as Aaron Griffiths who measured up a low half volley into the left hand corner.

The second half proved to be just as eventful as the first half, as the atmosphere in the ground continued to vibrate.

The Nailers took the lead for a second time after 56 minutes, following a bright pattern of play down the right hand side.

Once again it was an Aaron Cole cross, this time direct from a free kick that sent the ball into a crowd of players on the penalty spot. Colin Marrison headed the ball down and Kieran Wells picked up the pieces, acting quickly to poke home his second goal of the game from seven yards out.

The game was levelled again in the 68th minute to set up a grandstand finale to this highly watchable game.

Half time substitute Tony Chard collected the ball on the edge of the box, right of centre, and teed himself up for a good strike which arrowed towards the bottom left corner, only to be tipped away by Scott Low.

However, the Nailers were caught ball watching as Yeltz leading scorer Ben Haseley took the initiative to follow up with a smart finish from a tight angle.

The seventh goal of the game proved to be the decisive one, and it was the Nailers who would go on to claim the points.

Substitute Simon Harrison continued Aaron Cole’s good work from set pieces, with a dangerous free kick from the right hand side which was fired across the face of the goal where Dan White ghosted in at the far post to chest in the winning goal from three yards out.

The game finished on a sour note after Aaron Forde appeared to head-butt James Cullingworth and earn himself a deserved red card.
