A pulsating 90 minutes between two attacking teams ended in an exciting stalemate with chances to win it for both sides near the final whistle, writes Joe Malone.

Peter Duffield named the same starting 11 for the third consecutive game, with the Nailers aiming for four straight victories.

The game began in frantic style with both sides creating chances with their first attacks.

The opening chance came for the Seadogs just two minutes in, when a corner was whipped in from the left and flicked on at the near post only for Paul Foot's headed effort drifting a yard over the bar.

The Nailers then hit Scarborough with an opening goal with seven minutes on the clock.

A throw-in from the left was played in for Mark Ward, whose touch and turn produced a looping cross into the centre for Jon Froggatt (pictured) to send a header beyond the reach of ‘keeper, Jason White and just inside the far post.

Scarborough reacted well to going behind with measured and controlled football across the pitch.

The hosts almost found a rapid reply when a throw from the left was directed towards Jimmy Beadle who let the ball run across his path to delightfully create half a yard for himself and smashed a dipping half volley from the edge of the area which fell inches over the bar.

The Nailers doubled their advantage on the 15th minute as Scarborough failed to clear another cross.

This time it was a corner from the right hand side, driven in low by Simon Harrison. Dan White got his head to the ball initially which was saved well by Jason White, only for Phil Watt to pick up the second ball eight yards out and drive home Belper's second.

After a perfect twenty minutes for Duffield’s men, the weather was to become a major factor for the remaining seventy minutes as a very strong wind ensured neither side could gain much control of the ball.

Scarborough got their lifeline in the 28th minute after good work by Chris Bolder was rewarded with a goal.

Bolder was released down the right hand side after good movement to get inside James Cullingworth, he fired a low ball across the six yard box for Gary Bradshaw to stab home from close range.

The score line was levelled by the Seadogs after 41 minutes with a goal from Jimmy Beadle. Bradshaw drilled in a corner from the right hand side and aided by the wind swerving towards goal, the ball carried all the way to hit the inside of the far post.

Dan White attempted to clear when the ball but he could only clear it as far as Beadle who was on positioned in the six yard box to place the ball into the corner of the net, beyond the reach of David Ratcliffe.

But, the action wasn't over for the first half quite yet as the Nailers stole in to take the lead, against the run if play in first half stoppage time.

Sustained pressure by Scarborough was broken down and the Nailers began to move the ball away.

Colin Marrison found half a yard on the right hand side and produced a glorious through ball for Jon Froggatt who was onside to close in on the goalkeeper and slot the ball under the body of Jason White to score his second of the game.

The second half proved to be a more cautious 45 minutes for both sides, with both sets of players fearing the flight of the ball in the treacherous wind.

Simon Harrison could have put daylight between the two sides as Froggatt got in behind the defence on the right hand side. His ball was then cut back for Harrison to strike from eight yards, only for Foot to throw his body on the line to block the goal bound shot and ensure his side stayed in touching distance of the Nailers.

Further chances came for Steve Warne and Harrison with both players testing the goalkeeper, but to no avail.

Scarborough then had a goal disallowed with 10 minutes remaining when Beadle came in to slot the ball home from close range, only for the flag to be raised to deny the striker a second goal.

However, the home side went on and score their third goal with five minutes remaining after Gareth Davies brought down Chris Bolder in the area and concede a penalty for his side,. The game’s outstanding player, Gary Bradshaw stepped up and smashed the ball into the bottom right corner, sending Ratcliffe the wrong way.

But the drama didn't end there as the Nailers had four golden opportunities to win it late on.

Substitute Kieran Wells was hauled down in the area on the 87th minute and Belper were awarded the games’ second penalty, just two minutes after the first.

Jon Froggatt took responsibility, but could only scuff the ball straight down the middle to allow White the chance to block and save his side from defeat.

Six minutes of stoppage time were added on with Chris Jones and Colin Marrison both hitting the bar in quick succession, and Aaron Cole seeing his volley from the edge of the area tipped over the bar by White, to ensure his side took a share of the spoils.
