After Belper were narrowly defeated by Market Drayton, manager Charlie Palmer simply couldn’t hide his dissatisfaction with the result.

“It’s extremely disappointing, when you are creating the chances that we have created and you miss a penalty and you miss one on ones and then you go and concede a sloppy set piece.

“I look at it here now and with the chances we had we should have won the game, end of story, at this moment, we’re missing far too many chances.

“We could have had a couple more penalties but at the end of the day the players are in the team to take on some responsibility and make the right decisions.

The Nailers were defeated by a Tyrell Payton glancing header from a corner. However, Belper had plenty of chances to win the game with Alex Steadman missing a penalty and Ruben Wiggins-Thomas scuffing a one on one with the goalkeeper.

Not to mention a number of penalty calls that the Nailers were mystified about not receiving throughout the game.

But Palmer believes that his side cannot blame the penalty decisions and should look at themselves instead for the chances that they missed throughout the game.

“Forget about the penalties that we could have had, we still created enough chances to go and win a game of football.

“It’s sad to be standing talking about how we’ve lost the game 1-0 to Market Drayton, when you look at the overall game, we’ve created the better chances.”

The Nailers will be looking to put this game behind them and make sure that they can get back on track as they face AFC Rushden & Diamonds in their next league fixture.

Although with the Nailers failing to pick up a victory at home so far this season, Palmer will certainly be aware that he is in for a tough task and so he is asking for some of his players attitudes to change.

“The mindset needs to change and as the manager it’s down to me to change the mindset and I will do it and make sure that things are done in the way that I believe they should be done.

“Certain comments were made today that I didn’t like, and it’s my job to address that.”

Palmer was clearly absolutely devastated by this result but as he has showed all season, he is clearly determined to turn the Nailers season around and get them back to winning ways.
