The Ladies secured their first point of the season when H converted a late penalty to secure a well deserved draw.
Belper Ladies welcomed Castle Donnington to Alton Manor for their 3rd league game of the season, locking to carry forward the performance from last week.
Belper kicked the game off, and where straight on the attack putting the Donnigton defence under pressure. This early pressure paid off when Latasha forced the ball home after Beth flicked H’s corner into the box.
The game soon opened up into a even battle with both teams creating chances at either end. It was Donnigton who where next to hit the back of the net when an attacker was left unmarked on the edge of the area and was given all the time in world to fire the ball home.
This was how the game stayed till half time, a passionate team talk followed from both the Mangers and Players as we all felt we could get something out of the game.
But it was Donnigton who started the second half the brighter and had a few chances on goal, before they did find the net for a second time as the ball bounced nicely for the attacker to hit a low shot to the right of the keeper. Donnigton went close to claiming a 3rd, but Gilbo somehow stopped the ball on the line, before saving again as a player ran clear with the ball (and Keith flagged for a goal kick!!).
With 15 mins left on the clock Belper took a grip on the game and after a few wayward through balls started to feed the attackers some quality balls, which created chances that worried the Donnington side.
With 10mins left a H cross was handled in the box, and the referee awarded the penalty. H (not so) coolly slotted the penalty home, to bring the game level.
The final minutes of the game passed by as both teams where desperate to keep possession, and not lose the game.
“A Well deserved point and well battled, all showed character and can be proud of yourselves” Keith
Dame of the Game – Rach for a chasing everything down all game.
Goals – Latasha & H
Wooden Spoon Moment – Latash for running of the pitch crying, as her leg hurt.
