A game of Chalk and Cheese, as Belper progress in to League Cup Semi-final.

On a lovely autumn day Belper Ladies made the trip to Hilton Harriers in the League Cup, with a depleted squad, and only 3 defenders available so new goal keeper Steph offered to play out in an unfamiliar role of right back.

Following a 2 minutes silence for remembrance Sunday it was Hilton who got the game under way, and it was Hilton who had most of the early play as long balls over the top where troubling the Belper back line, and this possession allowed Hilton a couple of early shots which were put wide. Belper tried to get a grip on the game but nothing was going right in the middle of the park and possession was being lost easily. This resulted in Hilton taking the lead as a player was allowed to run through from midfield and placed the ball wide of the diving keeper to make it 1-0 to the home side.

With 10 minutes of the half left Belper made their first change brining on Sue for Kelly in midfield, and it wasn’t long before Sue made her presence known getting stuck in and breaking up the Hilton play, and allowing Belper to create opportunities going forward.
Half Time Hilton 1- 0 Belper

Belper had a rocket put up them at half time and came out a different side and from kick off showed what they were capable of as the midfield linked up well with each other to create a number of chances, and it wasn’t long before Helen was played in by Sue to level the game. 5 minutes later Belper had the lead as Jemma put Leah clear and she put the ball past the on rushing keeper.

Belper where forced to shuffle players about as Hannah went off for Kelly but everything about the team now looked positive as Jemma scored the 3rd as H flicked on a long goal kick for her to slot home.

Belper got a little complacent with the lead and Hilton scored their second not long after having had 1 disallowed for offside, but Belper responded quickly as H scored her 2nd of the game, and she was unlucky not get her hat trick when the Hilton keeper saved well before she blazed the rebound over the bar.

Dame of the Game Sue Thornehill.
