Belper Town Ladies, in their first outing for three and a half weeks were defeated at the Raygar Stadium as Borrowash Victoria surged up to 5th with six games in hand on the leaders.

It was a slow start on a chilly and gloomy evening and the first real action didn't arrive until the 19th minute when a good through ball found Beth Jones. The Borrowash forward, who would be at the heart of most of the visitors attacks brought a good save out of Belper goalkeeper Emma Varnam.

A couple of minutes later a cross from the left by Emily Foss reached Jones at the back post but with uncertainty as a team mate also approached the ball, she shot wide.

Belper's opening chance came on 23 minutes when Ella Rossa found space 20 yards out but her shot was held by Borrowash 'keeper Nikki Baillie.

In the 34th minute, Jamie Kingham's cross was met by Chelsie Tebble who will feel like she should have scored from the edge of the six-yard box but her shot was wide.

Within three minutes Belper were down the other end and went ahead. Mia Carnelley's pass from the right found Anna Macluskey and she met the ball sweetly from ten yards to open the scoring.

In first half injury time, an Alice Faulding free kick from 25 yards rattled the Borrowash crossbar and there was still time for Belper to go even closer. With the clock ticking down, Alex Holland found Carnelley who crossed for Macluskey. Her shot was blocked and then Baillie produced a great double save from Faulding.

The Vics started the second half strongly and straight from the kick-off, Jones found herself one on one with Varnam. The shot went just wide but the visitors didn't have to wait much longer for an equaliser.

In the 49th minute, Belper failed to clear a cross and in a scrappy passage of play, Eloise Thurman kept her cool to prod home and it was 1-1.

On 51 minutes there was another chance for Jones who once again found herself through on goal but Varnam was out to narrow the angle and Belper escaped.

It wasn't to last long however. With 55 minutes on the clock, Tebble's shot was well saved by Varnam but the quickest reaction came from Thurman who smashed the ball home to give Borrowash the lead.

Just after the hour mark Belper were level when Sammy Bennett took a quick free kick. As ever her delivery was pinpoint and found Faulding running through on goal. Her precise lob from well outside the penalty area levelled the scores at 2-2.

The Nailers nearly went ahead on 65 minutes when Carnelley charged down a clearance from the Vics defence but the follow up shot went agonisingly across the face of goal and just wide.

The 69th minute saw things flare up as two players battled for the ball and referee Chris Garner had no choice but to send off a player from each side.

On 76 minutes, Jones forced another good save out of Varnam with her feet.

In to the final ten minutes and on 82, lovely play between Hollie Thompson and Macie White resulted in a shot which was blocked out for a corner.

A minute later came the decisive goal. Uncertainty at the back for Belper meant the ball was only half cleared and Thurman was only too happy to take advantage.

Four minutes in to injury time Faulding charged down another attempted clearance from Borrowash but the ball bounced wide.

A disappointing result to end the first team's run of fixtures at the Raygar Stadium this season. They move on to Sunday's Cup match against Woodlands which will be played at the Leisure Centre while the Reserves take centre stage at the main ground, taking on Hatton United.

The result means Dom Anderson's side slip to 7th place in the DGLL Division One with two games remaining.

Next Wednesday sees them travel to Borrowash for the return fixture before finishing the season away to leaders Draycott Victoria.
