Sunday 19th October
Belper Ladies 2
Hilton Harriers Ladies 1
Belper entertained Hilton at home with the intention of getting back to winning ways.
Belper’s supporters were not to be outdone as within three minutes of kick off a powerful run by Helen Tunnicliffe against several defenders left her one on one with the goalkeeper. She picked her spot and Belper lead one nil. Belper continued to control the game with some good football with midfield being controlled by Jemma Wheatley, Emma Brentnall and Kelly Turner.
Leah Parkin continued to put pressure on the Hilton defence and a run, a quarter of an hour into the game made the goalkeeper make a mistake by fumbling the ball which Parkin pursued and put the ball into an open goal.
At half time Belper went in two nil up.
Belper’s defence of Olivia Pell, Sarah Jackson, Bethany Parkin and Helen Colwill kept Hilton at bay with some good strong defending as Hilton piled on the pressure.
A run from Hilton down the left of the field beat the backline and a lofted ball into the wind thought to be a cross went into the back of the net without touching another Hilton player, to put Hilton back in the game.
The game ebbed and flowed with Belper keeping possession with Tunnicliffe having numerous attempts on goal without success. Hilton kept Belper honest with some timely runs that were kept out by goalkeeper Emma Varnam.
Substitutions bought Lauren Curtle into the game who linked up well with Alice Liggett and the rest of the midfield to control the ball towards the end of the game.
Belper ran out the clock but Hilton still kept the game on a knife edge to the end.
Belper Dame of the Game Helen Tunicliffe
