Albans bemoans lack of commitment

David Laughlin14 Sep 2015 - 07:05

Belper manager Jim Albans was unhappy with the commitment and desire his players showed on Saturday as they crashed out of the Emirates F.A Cup.

“Compared to the way we played away at Spalding on Tuesday night, when the character and desire the players showed to try and get something from the game despite having ten men for eighty minutes, was in stark comparison to the lack of passion and commitment we showed on against Dunkirk.

“It was like watching two different football teams”.

New signing Tom Liversedge (pictured) was cup-tied for the game on Saturday and despite him having only played once for the Nailers, he was a big miss for Albans’ side.

“I think it was pretty obvious how much we missed Tom (Liversedge), although he only played sixty minutes on Tuesday, his hold up play was vital and obviously he gave us the lead.

“He would have certainly helped the situation against Dunkirk as he is a great target man who would have been able to roll the centre half and set up opportunities for others.

“But the players we put out certainly should have had enough to win the football match providing they had applied themselves correctly”.

“We’ve also lost a great opportunity to have put some money back into the club.

“I know how hard it is financially for all football clubs at this level so to miss out on an opportunity to do that against a club from a lower level of football to improve finances is massively disappointing.

“That’s three games on the spin that we’ve lost and that is very frustrating but we didn’t deserve to lose the first two games.

“We need to go back to what we did in those earlier games and do the ugly side of the game, the hard work and graft, before we can start to play the type of attractive football that people want to see.

“I’d rather play and scrap for 90 minutes and score a late goal than play attractive football and lose the game.

The Nailers have had four red cards so far this season, the suspensions are coming thick and fast, which gives an opportunity to players from the Under 21’s and academy sides to get first team experience.

“I watched the Under 21’s on Thursday night against Ilkeston and I was very impressed.

“There looked to be some good players who are pushing for the first team.

“Me and Wayne have always said if the player is good enough he will get his chance and nothing has changed in that respect.
