CN: So, Lee, bowing out of the FA Trophy this afternoon, 2-1 defeat at Wellingborough, how did you see the game this afternoon?

LA: I thought it was a bang-even game. Bang-even game between two, I think, pretty physical teams. You can see why they're six (wins) out of six.

They're very effective, don't make many mistakes, don't let up, don't give you much. But I thought we were the same. We started really well.

We sort of weathered a 10-minute spell from them, settled into the game, scored a goal, good delivery from Eddie, good header from Drapes. Once again, we finished it off. Our disappointment is that we conceded within two or three minutes and it's a soft goal.

We get down the right-hand channel far too easy with pretty much one scoop ball in behind and that should never happen. But it did and it was 1-1. And then again, bang-even game for the rest of it really.

We've had a few half chances, they've had a few half chances, nothing major in the game, neither keepers done loads. And then just the way things are going for us at the minute, we've had to take Draper off, we've got to protect him a little bit because with his injury and his lay-off, he's played a lot of football. We've got to take Eddie off to protect him.

We've got no Grats, no Rhodes, no Mansell. So, we're a little bit light, probably that last half an hour. And at that point, we had a few square pegs around us and things went a little bit disjointed going forward.

But we still look relatively OK defensively. And then whilst Lewis is down injured, we're down to 10 men, they put a ball in the box, we win two contacts and then just our luck at the minute, the lad bends one top corner from 20 yards, it's right under the angle. So that is the way things are going for us at the minute.

And we're not daft, we know we need to get our season started and start getting some wins on the board. But once again, I'm stood here saying we've played OK again. That's now six games, five and a half of them have been pretty good.

We're just lacking that little bit of a killer instinct around the box at the minute; we know that as well. But certainly not for the want of trying. And I think the lad's are leaving everything they’ve got on the pitch.

We've played well in spells and moving the ball nicely. I think we're passing it better than we have done for the last two or three seasons. But we're just trying to get our balance right between when to go big and when to shorten it up.

And maybe getting caught in between a little bit at times. But again, I just think if we don't let that goal in for one all, we settle into the game a little bit more and come on stronger maybe, who knows. But again, we've come away to probably one of the favourites in the league.

And barring a worldie finish into the top corner, you know you've competed all the way through. Even when we've made a lot of changes and obviously, we've got a lot of important players for us that are injured at the minute. So, we patch up and it's a bit of a cliche, but our season's properly got a start on Monday at Basford.

CN: You mentioned a minute ago some of the injuries. Obviously, Jordan had to play right back this afternoon and Louis at left-back where he's not played yet this season. How is it going to be looking for Monday (and) to get any bodies back?

LA: Difficult because Mansell's right on the edge of being ready and so is Grats.

But obviously do you want their first game to be thrown in away at Basford on a 4G in what is probably going to be a full-bodied game? They're probably able to get through some minutes whether we start them or not. We take the risk. We'll have to obviously assess that (over) the next couple of days.

A little bit of that will depend on a few of the knocks we've got today. Jordan's got a hole in his ankle. Lewis has come off injured.

So, we've just got to assess it literally the next day because we've not got long. I keep saying I'm not naive. We need to start winning some games.

But at the same time, I still can't go in there and be angry with the players because of how we're playing. We're playing okay. It will definitely come.

We probably just need a little bit of luck sometimes. Like I say, today we've won two contacts in the box. It's landed right between four players and it's stuck in top corner.

That is happening to us at the minute. Just as we were on top the other day at 2-1, the worldie in for 3-1, we're getting sucker-punched a bit. But we can't make excuses.

We have to be better in the moment. I think at the minute, what we're not doing is we're not taking our half chances. That's the problem here.

Now again, you just need to spank one in from twenty yards and get you off. Having said that, at 1-0, there's just a pen on Drapes. Linos have been seeing it, said they saw it, but said the ref didn't give it.

But then the free kick for their goal is absolutely ultra soft. You win some, you lose some. We're losing a few at the minute.

Hopefully, it will come. We're pretty confident that it will. Our job is not at the minute to get into the lads and start reading them the right act.

It's trying to get a bit of confidence up because everyone feels like they're playing all right. We're all scratching our heads at the minute as to why we're not quite getting the results. Fingers crossed it will come.

I'm sure it will. Hopefully, that starts Monday.
