CN: Lee, fantastic win this afternoon, five goals, clean sheet, happy manager?
LA: Yes, obviously. We had a plan to be a bit more robust today, a bit more direct. We felt we'd hurt these from deliveries into the box. It proved to be the case, the second half, that we've scored.
Well, we’ve scored four in the second half, but we've had a couple of good saves from their keeper and there could have been even more. But we're just pleased that we feel like we did a professional job there. But at the same time, you always think, yes, it should have happened on Tuesday and that would have been nine points per week.
But instead, we come away with seven points per week. So, yes, we're pleased and it's creeping us in the right direction.
CN: Five unbeaten now and a clean sheet today, which we haven't had too many of this season. So, massive steps in the right direction over the last two or three weeks.
LA: Yes, much better. And again, I just think we scored at good times today.
We scored just before half-time, pretty much on the stroke of it. Good time to score. We got the second early in the second half and that puts a bit of nerves to bed.
And then after that, I said to the lads there that that's the best bench that I've ever had as a manager. That's the best five I've named on the bench at any club I've been at.
And you could see the difference that made with twenty minutes, half an hour left to be able to bring on Eddie and Curt and obviously Draper and Rhodesy.
The quality we were bringing into the game when they were getting tired and I just felt by the end there, it was almost like every time we got the ball and went forward, you felt we could score.
But we had to keep the back door shut and we did that as well. And Keenan was superb again.
We call him Mr. Gru, controlling the minions at the back. And he's got another goal to his name. Evo was solid again.
Even little things when we're three and four nil up. They put two dangerous balls in the box. Danny Gordon's round the back post to defend one of them.
Mansell's round the back post to defend the other. So, we're doing things properly. Standards were higher today and we've got to take that forward now.
CN: Bit of rustiness in the old scoring boots for Harry, do you think, there in the second half?
LA: I think Draper's got three assists, but I said to him there, if he gave me a fiver every time he missed the chance, I'd be a rich man. But no, he changed the game in a way that it brought a little bit of added quality to us.
I thought the first half as much as we huffed and puffed, I thought the game was pretty poor from both sides. Not a lot of quality. It was void of much quality, as I say.
In the second half, we just looked a bit more alive. We just looked a bit more ourselves. And again, once you get one and two, the confidence starts to flow, and you can see us almost come out of our shell a little bit.
And we obviously need to see that earlier in games. But I think like we just said off-camera, and as I said on Tuesday, there's no poor sides in this league. And even then, we're based on a 45-minute mark and a bit of a stalemate of a game.
And that first goal was always going to be massively important. If they'd have got it, it'd be different. So, we've put them to bed today, but they'll pick points for teams.
They've only lost the last two 1-0 against both Nuneaton and Boldmere, who are both very good sides who are in and around the play-offs. So, they're no mugs either. And 5-0 looks really comfortable, but we have to get the job done.
CN: One more away match next week before we return to the Raygar Stadium. How important is it to just keep the momentum going?
LA: Yes, like I say, we're unbeaten in five, but I think we've only lost one in seven. I'd say the seven points from the last week has put us in a better position.
We've been in shooting distance of being in them play-off places, which like I said this early on, it doesn't really matter. But we're wanting to build some momentum. Every game is tough, but on paper, we've got a really tough five or six fixtures coming up against some of the big hitters.
We've got to stand up and be counted. We'll need the whole squad. If we can play like that, we'll cause anyone problems.
