SB: Fairly comprehensive win today then Lee, so what were you most impressed with?
LA: Just better, all over. We had a better shape about us, we looked more of a threat, we had a bit more of a solid game plan, which sounds daft, but we've not had, we've had at least five unavailable for every game, so nearly full tilt today. We had a pretty comprehensive team talk about how we wanted to go about the game and we just carried it out much better than we have done.
I always felt we'd get stronger towards the end of pre-season like most teams will, but we haven't hit our stride yet and today was the first time we looked a real threat, scored four goals, probably should have kept a clean sheet. I think their goal's offside; we'll look at it back.
Nice for Draper to get on the score sheet, two goals for him, looks back to his old self, got the be patient with him, but he certainly looked more of a threat today. Good performances from the wide lads, kept the ball nicely in spells and just overall, just a notch up on what we've done so far.
SB: Looking more generally, so pre-season's over now, so how happy are you with the squad?
LA: Yes, I mean, on paper, probably the strongest we've been for the last couple of years in terms of depth. Obviously, we've lost goals from the side in terms of Kev, but then you've got those back in Draper, we've added a few extra lads as well, Tav and Eddie. So, I think all in all, depth is there, there's more competition for places across the backline, which we've not had for a couple of years.
And, yes, a few headaches for us, some good performances from Tom Eccleshall or Mansell's come in like he's played with us for years and, yes, got some good headaches.
Keeps the lads on their toes and we've got to earn the shirt.
SB: So, what do you think this group of players can achieve in this league this season?
LA: I think we've got to be sensible about it.
You hear too many people saying we're going to try and win the league and this and that.
There’re too many good sides in this league, we all want to compete. I said this at the start of last season, but there's probably fifteen sides we all think we can get in the play-offs.
We obviously want to be up around it, we've been in the play-offs two years that's obviously our minimum goal, but we just want to have a positive start and see where that takes us.
