Belper Town Awards Night

Belper Town Awards Night

Nigel Oldrini12 May 2023 - 19:12

Belper Town held their awards night in the Nailers Events and Conference Centre and which was well attended by fans and players.

Nailers’ chairman Ian Woodward opened the evening with a warm welcome to all and while the season hadn’t gone to plan on the field, there had been many improvements off the field with more to come in the near future.

He also said in a separate interview on the night:

‘Awards nights are occasions when the better they go the better they’ve done (in the season) and it was nice to see everyone down. There were plenty of fans and players who came and it gives us the opportunity to thank the people who run the club and (recognise) those behind the scenes.’

‘Its not always about football so yes, it’s a good night for thanking everybody and making everyone welcome. For me personally (this season) has been a massive learning curve. I’m in my fifth year as chairman and I think it’s been my toughest I’ve ever experienced.’

The first award of the evening was a special one awarded to club Secretary Ian Wright for his long and dedicated service to the club and was presented to him by the Chairman.

This was followed by a group award given to the ladies who work mainly behind the scenes at the club and their help is vital to keep the club running particularly on match days.

The club then recognised the hard work put in by Chris Jordan who has been responsible for the improvement in the playing surface since he began working on the pitch a year ago.

The Supporters Player of the Season award went Tom Wilson who was ever present last season and was a very popular fans’ choice; and the award was presented by Chris Nelson.

The Players Player of the Season was won by Ben Rhodes and was presented by manager Lee Attenborough, and he also presented his own award, the Manager’s Player of The Season to Tom Jackson.

Finally Belper Town’s Academy team were recognised for their Midlands Championship win after winning 8 of their 12 games and and taking the title on goal difference.

Their success then saw them qualify for the Grand Final of the ESPFA Academy where they found a strong Witton Albion side a little too much for them on the day.

Congratulations to everyone who was recognised for their efforts over the past season.
