Manager's Assessment - Bourne Town

Manager's Assessment - Bourne Town

Nigel Oldrini29 Nov - 22:03

'You're never going to be disappointed when you win, but I just think if we could just tidy up a little bit, that should have been more.'

Yes, they put us through the ringer, (but) we won that game comfortably in the end.

It might sound like I'm exaggerating, but I'm not. We could have won that game 7 or 8-0. I think we should have been 3-0 up after 10 minutes.

We hit the post first, then we hit the bar, point blank save from Kev and then we miss a penalty as well. You just start to think it might be one of those games where you get no luck and, listen, when you're at nil nil, anything can happen, even against ten men. You've only got to have one breakaway or a set piece.

So, that first goal was really good to see it go in, but there's no doubt we deserved to win the game. It's just a matter of whether we could get over the line with it and finally put the ball in the back of the net. When Grats scored the second pen and both pens both stonewallers.

That's got us off on our way and then we were wasteful again. Three or four opportunities, two or three where we have to square it for an open net tap-in and we shoot and it's just decisions in the final third. If those decisions were better or the quality was a little bit higher, we would have run away with that game.

We didn't, but we got the job done at 2-0 and another clean sheet, three on the row, back four and KP excellent again. You're never going to be disappointed when you win, but I just think if we could just tidy up a little bit, that should have been more.

Yes, winning is a habit and that's three on the bounce now.

We've obviously got the cup game Tuesday and then to Bedworth the following Saturday. Then we've got a run of three home games. I know it's easy to say, don't get carried away and it's one game at a time.

But obviously, you look at the run of games you've got, we want to put something together. Carlton keep winning, you keep going. We've got to try and maintain the pace.
Whilst we're winning games, we're stretching that gap to fifth and sixth place as well. We're targeting every game to win. We're going to no games to look to shut up shop and draw.

That's not the way we do things, me, and Wainey. Again, today, first half, we've come in at nil-nil. What do you say to the players? You had a really good performance.
You've done pretty much everything right. You've given next to nothing at the other end.
But we've hit the post twice, hit the bar whatever.

Penalty, just in the second half, but loads of chances. You just think, what can we do? Tactically, we haven't changed much. Just a case of keep plugging away.

Don't get frustrated if they play low block. Keep working the ball side to side, keep playing forward passes. Hopefully, eventually it will come and it did in the end.
It's three points on the row, which you never sniff at.
