It was a great game; an unbelievable game of football, end to end and two very good teams. It’s very difficult to be disappointed, but as proud I am at the same time of that performance we’ve come here and named five on the bench but only had three subs as two lads were carrying knocks.
They got through a hundred twenty minutes after playing ninety-six on Saturday. We only made one change because that’s all we could do. We went a goal down in the first half but weathered the storm, and I thought they were really good there and pretty sharp.
They worked our legs but what we did, we stuck in the game, we hung in and we got our rewards with the goal. So, we’ve come back once and showed that character and desire.
We went into extra time and got another kick in the teeth when they go 2,1 up.
You think we are dead and buried, then we come back again. I’ve just said to the players that I’m proud of them. I really like what I see from this team. We’ve got heart, we’ve got passion, but also, we’ve got good footballers as well.
We can do a bit a bit of everything; so, the bigger picture looks good. It’s hard not to be disappointed tonight, but there’s ways to lose games and we left everything out on the pitch and that’s all you can ask for.
There’s nothing I can say right now that’s going to pick them up (for Boldmere on Saturday), because they are all disappointed, all gutted. But they will go away tonight, get some rest in over the next day or two.
We’ll watch the video back and let them reflect on the game and I think they’ll realise that actually they’ve put on a show tonight. They’ve gone toe to toe with a team in the league above, with good players for two times ninety minutes and extra time, and there’s nothing to split the teams at the end of the day.
You get that penalty and if Mason slips in that penalty you go to a shoot-out and you never know, you might be through to the next round. We feel like over the two ties that we deserved to go through.
We should have got the job done on Saturday, but we didn’t, and at that point it we have come here and maybe roll over because you feel so hard dome by at the weekend.
But we didn’t, we stood up and we showed loads of character tonight and that’s the biggest thing for me. It’s good signs for moving forward.
