CN: Lee, slipping to a 3-1 defeat against Ilkeston tonight, a little bit slow out the traps at the start both halves, how did you see it?
LA: Yes, exactly that, we didn't start quick enough. I think that the way they play it’s difficult to press them, they don’t leave it there very long.
We got caught in behind a couple of times. So, we had to change shape within 10 minutes. We shoved Grats more central, pulled Liam out to the left.
It shortens up a little bit. I thought for the last, probably for fifteen minutes of that first half, we were in the ascendancy, we were all over them for a good spell. We got the goal for one all.
A good time to score, just before half-time, but we could have done with that first half, left another 5-10 minutes because we were just starting to play well. Same again, like you say, we came out second half, started slow. Kev's not tracked his runner down the left-hand side.
They put a cross in and score. We found out, didn't we, at Step 3 a few years ago, that teams don't let you off. That's the difference at our level.
You might get away with not tracking your runner once or twice, but the higher up you go, the less you get away with it. We got punished again there. But even at 2-1, we were well in the game until the red card.
CN: Looking forward, then, no further injury concerns tonight from getting through unscathed. Two difficult away matches coming up now.
LA: Yes, but they're all difficult, aren't they? We've just played Anstey.
We've played Rugby away Tuesday night after a tough game at Carlton. They get no easier. Two away games to two teams that have still got playoff hopes in Shepshed, but obviously, Diamond's first.
Injury-wise, even there, we're chasing a game, but we took Grats off because we've got to protect him. We only planned to give him an hour tonight.
We need to pitch time for Shawy, pitch time for Sash, Jordan to try and get his rhythm back, because he'll be back for us in after next week.
But it's difficult there, because at 2-1, you kind of feel you're still in the game, but obviously it's a real uphill task. At that point, it's do you twist and keep all your lads on the pitch and risk injuries, or do you make sensible decisions? As I felt, we had a few half-sniffs.
I wouldn't say chances second half, but chances to make chances when the final ball wasn't there. But I just don't want to dwell on it too much, because I think we put a decent cup run together there and we've been let down by a stupid decision. As I said to Kev there, it's just selfish, because there's just no need.
You've got eight hundred people there, we're in a cup semi-final, we're banging the game at 2-1. It's all over nothing. It's an ego thing, and it's cost us.
We've got lads there running empty, Evo goes over with an ankle injury, you put lads with their bodies on the line. For what? To get a stupid red card for an hour? It kills you. Against a team from the league above who work your legs and are not going to let you off.
It's disappointing that, because, like I say, if you leave a foot in there, you miss time a tackle, you can accept it. But that sort of stupidity, it just costs you. If you remember, Chris, it was two years ago now, probably three years ago actually, where we missed out on the play offs by one place, a few points, and it was the season, I think we had eleven red cards.
Jordan found out the hard way, with an eight-game ban, stupidity. Kev, tonight, let his teammates down, stupidity. It's just not good enough.
We work too hard. I'm not just going to say it's me and Matt that work too hard. We all work hard, you guys work hard, the chairman works hard, the board, they all work hard to get these games on.
The groundsman's been working his socks off the last two days to try and get the pitch right for that. So, yes, we are frustrated. I'm angry at that.
And we've just got to pack it in because it's not good enough. And, yes, it's selfish.
