Yes (we) deserved to win it. It probably would have been daylight robbery if we didn't. They probably had one chance, maybe two, in the game and they obviously scored one to make it one all.
I thought we were comfortable until obviously the equaliser. Same as last week, you never got the game won at 1-0. For about five or ten minutes, they turned the screw in terms of just loading the box and getting the big lads forward.
It's always difficult to play against a side that can do that. You can't maintain pressure because you're just going back to front really quick. But I thought we looked lively on the break, and we kept slipping our wide lads in behind.
It probably could have been maybe a couple of goals up before they made it one all. But for us, I think it was just important for us to get the result today, regardless of how we did it. Two or three games on the spin where we've not picked up results, we had to get back on the horse.
It's a tough place to come, so we like the three points. It's important to put perspective on it. It was only three games ago people were saying we're going to win the league.
Then three games later, we're going to be lucky to get in the play-offs. Listen, we don't come bad side overnight.
We've gone two-thirds of the way through the season. We've probably lost one away game. We're right up and around it.
But obviously, we've been disappointed with the run we've been on. Put into context, we lost to Ferriby 1-0 in a real tight game., it could have gone either way.
We lost against Ossett. But we're down to ten men and a penalty against us after 40 minutes at 0-0, and Dunston can beat anybody. I try and look at the bigger picture.
I always say that I don't get too high when we win. I think it was after Bradford, I actually said the words, we've won four in a row.
We can easily lose four in a row in this league. In, let's say, three games, we've not been at it 100 per cent. But today, we've shown a lot of character there, especially going in at 1-1.
Then for, let's say, for ten minutes, we looked a little bit like we were on the back foot. To find something at the end there, a great ball from Kieran, a little bit of effort from Jack. Very similar to the Bradford Park Avenue goal.
I thought (Kev Bastos) was very good first half. I thought he tired a bit second half. Obviously, he's not played loads of 90s recently. But listen, we know what Kev can do. He's another match winner.
We know with Draper. his availability is a little bit sketchy. We know that with work and whatnot.
It's turned into a bigger deal than we thought it would. So, we're hoping to have him back at some point. At the minute, we just felt the need to bring in another talisman who we think can win us games.
Kev's one of those players. I've had Kev at two different clubs on two spells. I always feel like we get the best out of him.
Obviously, last season he won't be happy with how we finished the season in terms of red cards and suspension. But listen, we put that to one side now. We focus on this season.
We're in a good position where we can kick on. We want Kev to be a big part of that as well as the other boys.
We love being here. We love the club. We feel like it's our club. I know it sounds daft to say, but we've been here two- and a-bit years now. We're desperate to do as well as the club are. We don't feel like it's the club and us.
We feel like it's one big unit. I felt disappointed last year that we've let the club down a little bit in terms of results. But, again, the bigger picture is the club moving in the right direction.
Since we've been at step four, we've not been below sixth place in two years. The club are obviously doing all the off the field stuff. We've got stability at the minute.
But it's important that we keep our foot down on the field. We can't go on the runs that we've just been on. We've got to keep pushing forward.
So, yes, we're proud to have done it. I'm glad to be standing here, having done 100 games with a win under our belt. It would have been a bit more of a difficult interview if it were four on the row defeats.
So, we're happy with three points. But, yes, listen, proud to manage the club. Hopefully, all being well and we'll be here for a long time to come.
