Manager's Assessment - Rugby Borough

Manager's Assessment - Rugby Borough

Nigel Oldrini14 Mar - 20:53

'I thought defensively in the second half we were excellent. We barely gave up a chance.'

CN: Back to winning ways this afternoon and a second successive clean sheet, you must be very happy.

LA: Yes, obviously three points is the most important thing. I don't think our quality was quite where we wanted it to be today. I think in the first half we were pretty slack on the ball in the final third.

We had two 1v1s, especially down the left-hand side, I think three times. We just played the passes at the wrong time or without the quality that it needed. We were disappointed at the time.

It wasn't a riot act job; it was just we needed to concentrate a bit more. I thought defensively in the second half we were excellent. We barely gave up a chance.

They've got a lot of good players, ex-Step 2 and 3 players, all the way through the squad. I thought we'd run all over them.

CN: How important was it to have Jordan back today with Jack having to go off injured? Ben Rhodes is back and Lewis Austin is suspended.

I keep saying it every week, we'll have a full squad next week. I keep saying that and it keeps getting pushed back. Jono's not got back from Mexico on time, flight was delayed.
Lewis obviously got sent off last week, three-game ban. Jack, we didn't really want to start him because of his back. You could see after 20 minutes he was struggling, so we had to change him.

Rhodesy has come in with tonsillitis and played half a game. Just backs to the wall in that sense. But again, next week we should be healthier.

Having Jordan in there, it didn't look like he'd been away, did it? He had bite about him, a bit of a point to prove. Listen, we've stuck by Jordan, so he's repaid it a little bit there with that performance. If he plays like that, it's going to be tough for people to knock him out of the team.

CN: And finally, with the teams above us all winning today, how important is it to use this as a springboard to go on a bit of a run now with two home games coming up?

Yes, there’s nine games now, but ten games before today, you feel like you're nearly there if you like, but there's a quarter of a season still to go. Plenty of points to play for, twenty-seven more up for grabs. I just looked at the scores there.

I think Diamonds lost and I think Wellingborough lost as well, so that gives us a little bit of breathing space. But it's in our hands, isn't it, to get in the play-off. So, we've just got to focus on our own performances, our own results.

We fancy ourselves at home against anybody, but we've probably had too many draws there. So, we need to go back to the Raygar next week and stick another three on.
