Actually, believe it or not I thought we played miles better in the second half. We got the ball down, passed it and moved it and I thought we were really sharp going forward in the second forty-five and I thought it was a great result. Home or away particularly on a tricky surface with the fog coming down, it was an important three points.
Before the Brighouse game as I was saying to the boys in the dressing room, we targeted ten points from the four games over that sort of period with Brighouse, Stannington and today’s game against Sheffield, and we’ve got Sherwood on New Year’s Day.
We’ve got seven points and a win against Sherwood would give us a good haul of points which again puts is in a good position to attack the second half of the season.
Today was another one of those when we thought for ages about the team (selection) like I do every week but today was difficult and even at one thirty when I got here, I was still tossing a few things in the air about what to do system wise and players to play.
I felt Mason deserved to come back in today but then you look at the performance against Heaton Stannington, so we twisted and put out the same team. We started bright and when we got the goal, I thought it would settle us and we would be fairly comfortable, but they scored just after half time, and we had a ropey spell for just less than ten minutes or five or six minutes.
We thought that the tide was turning a little bit in their favour and then we went at got hold of it again, and I think shifting Curt just that little bit further forward helped and sort of solidified and still gave us runners.
After sixty- or seventy-minute Tav start to run a little bit riot down the right. Draper’s always Draper and sometimes early on in games when its fresh defenders can look half decent against him, but its only a matter of time before something drops for him and he’s peeled off.
I thought his goal was the best goal of the game; not just the finish which was good but the link up play from Rhodes and Tav down the right-hand side was electric and the ball was on a sixpence and when Draper gets a chance, Draper scores.
So, I’m happy with that and the footwork from Tav for the penalty for the fourth and there’s loads of positives to take. You’d have taken a scrappy one nil win, but it’s come out four one, so I’m more than happy. So, we’ll dust ourselves down and don’t dwell on it too long because there’s another game to come.
