Matt came through the Derby County youth team and although he didn’t make a first team appearance for the club he did win an England Under 17 cap whilst there.

He signed for League Two side Wycombe Wanderers in 2008 after featuring in reserve games for the club following his release from Derby.

In 2009, he signed for Notts. County on loan until the end of the season and made his professional debut in a 2-1 win over his parent club Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.

Following his release from Wycombe he joined Derbyshire neighbours, Ilkeston FC where he enjoyed a successful 3-year spell with the Robins.

He was released by manager Kevin Wilson in June 2014 and spent some time at Heanor Town before taking a break from the game.
