Danny has played over 170 games for the Nailers in two previous spells, first being seen in the yellow & black in August 2018 with his last appearance two years ago this month. He also contributed 31 goals during that time.
Manager Lee Attenborough explained:
"With the announcement that Danny is returning to Belper Town, and given his history with the club, I felt it was important to say a few words to provide some clarity for our supporters.
"As we know, Danny left the club around this time a couple of seasons ago to pursue an opportunity that was financially better for him and his family. Naturally, that decision was disappointing for the management, the club, and the fans, and it left us wondering what might have been by the end of that season.
"However, time has moved on. As we do with many former players, Matt and I have kept track of Danny’s progress, and he has stayed in touch with us over the past two years. He has also attended a number of Belper games during that time.
"With the transfer deadline approaching on Thursday, and Jack Broadhead currently struggling with a back injury, we are short of cover in central defence without having to move Louis Keenan out of position. Danny gives us that option, while also offering versatility, having played all season as a number nine for Hallam.
"Given our recent struggles in front of goal, particularly at home, we feel this addition provides something different in attack — a genuine plan B — as well as a strong physical presence in both boxes.
"Finally, with just eight games remaining, we find ourselves in a tight battle for the final playoff places. I believe the group would benefit from a lift, along with added character and leadership in the dressing room — qualities Danny has always brought in abundance.
So, while this signing may come as a surprise to some, time is a great healer, and I am confident Danny will have a very positive impact as we approach a crucial stage of the season."
Danny also wanted to say a few words regarding his return to Belper:
"It’s a pleasure to sign back for the team I call my home. I can’t wait to get back involved with the lads.
"I’m back to hopefully contribute and get this team promoted.
"I apologise to anyone who may see my return as a negative. I promise to give 100% to get us in the playoffs and promoted.
"Looking forward to my third stint at the club, let’s go lads!"
Danny is available for selection tomorrow evening as we travel to AFC Rushden & Diamonds.
