'That's the Belper Town we want to see more of' says Attenborough.

Nigel Oldrini

Chris Nelson spoke to Lee Attenborough following yesterday's win at Boston Town

CN: Lee, a fantastic victory on the road at Boston Town this afternoon, after what's been a slightly troubling few weeks, you must be absolutely delighted with what you've seen there?

LA: Yes, listen, the results, priority obviously, performance kind of comes secondary, but we've got both got a 3-0 win, (and) saying this respectfully, that could have been 7 or 8, and I've said that a few times, and people must think I'm talking a load of rubbish, but again, you guys will see, you saw that, their keeper's made 3 or 4 saves, they're like one-in-a-season saves and he's pulled off 3 or 4 of them.

So yeah, we were 2-0 up at half-time, we felt like the worry we had was the game should have been dead and buried, and then obviously at 2-0, listen, we've all watched football long enough, it only takes a bit of luck or a free kick or a penalty, whatever it might be, and it's 2-1 and it's attacking down both of them second half, and we needed the third goal.

We felt it at three, that sort of killed the game, although after that, still a couple of hairy moments, and I thought there were still little bits of time where we were open there, but no doubt going forward, that's the Belper Town that we want to see more of, much more like it, firm-man runs, getting down the sides, and yeah, I thought the quality, especially in the first half, was some of the best we've seen.

CN: I know you don't like singling players out, so I'll do it for you, he got a chance at Wellingborough a couple of weeks ago, (and he) unfortunately picked up a bit of a knock Back in the team today, scored a goal, absolutely brilliant again; Lewis Austin.

LA: Yeah, listen, Lewis is a good player, we know Lewis is a good player, people want him to play more, Lewis is very good on the ball, Lewis has to work off the ball, today he won more of his duels, you know, even getting up in the air and winning little flick-ons and stuff.

Yeah we're disappointed he didn't score a hat-trick, because his goal was good, he's had another one that the keeper’s; well I think he made a double save, and then he hit one into, well I couldn't say row Z, but it would have been row ZZ, I think, but good performance from him, and I'm pleased for him, still got work to do, same for Curt, Curt would have been frustrated missing out the last couple, but I thought he got a stuck in there.

He hit the switch and played better today, can't believe Tav's not scored, he can't believe he's not scored either, I mean, he needs a bit of luck Tav, but just on the luck front, like, when we've come out in the last three or four interviews and you say we need a bit of luck, we got a little bit today, didn't we, you know.

Tthey've switched off as soon as they've scored for 1-0, they've kicked it, going out of play from their restart, mixed up between KP and Mansell, and they've got an open net, and luckily it hit the post, but that would have, that would have summed our season up so far if that had gone in, and maybe that was a bit of luck we needed, and that other one that's, you know, Keenan's got a block in, it’s looped over KP, I think its hit him on the head and still not going over the line.

That was the difference today, we got that little bit of luck when we needed it, but I thought in terms of, you know, the 90 minutes, there's no doubt, we bossed the majority of that game with and without the ball, and it's the first time, you know, we took a few chances, that's been the difference, you know, we've gone 1-0 up again, and we've managed to keep a foot down, and we've not gone 1-0 up in enough games, that's been the problem.

I think the last one we went 1-0 up in was Boldmere, we won it, the only other one was Wellingborough, but we conceded within a minute or two, so, yeah, more of that please, a few more grey hairs after the last few weeks, but either, you know, this group keep saying they're an honest group, they're a good group, credit to our lads that we love working with.

But it's only one result that, and we're not going to ger carried away, you know, we need probably another two wins back to back to make this start an okay one, because at the minute, as it stands with points on the board, you still class it as a below par one, and we're aware of that, we're not, you know, we're not stupid, but green shoots today, and yeah, obviously Tuesday at home, can we go and do it again.

CN: We'll be back on the coach shortly, you and the lads, onward down to Skeggy for a night out, which I imagine is going to be a little bit better now than perhaps if the result hadn't gone that way, are you looking forward to it?

LA: I don't know you said Skeggy would be a little bit better, I don't think Skeggy gets any better, does it? But now, I've got, I'll try and keep a lid on them, but I'm going to say though, people like Mansell, you can't keep a lid on people like Mansell, you've got to keep a jack in the box.

I will be steady tonight, because tomorrow I’m at the Manchester derby for my sins, but listen, it'll be a much more positive night after that result, and the biggest thing for me is that I'm also pleased for the people at the club, you know, yourself, Vince, everyone else that's here, a massive thank you to the away support.

I don't know how many there was, probably 40 or 50, maybe outnumbered the home fans, I don't know, they've travelled again in numbers, and yeah, I just can't help you enough, because not just at games, but personal messages I've had off a few of these hardcore supporters, we've got to know personally over the years.

It's picked us up a little bit, because we've been down a little bit, me and Matt, you know, we're working hard, it's not quite happened for us, just a big thank you to the travelling support, and everyone at the club for the support as well, and we've repaid it a little bit today, but we've got more to do.
