On a warm July afternoon the Nailers gave their supporters a glimpse of what to expect when they ran out 3-1 winners over a competitive Skegness side.

Danny South, Alex Troke and Mason Warren were unavailable for this first game of pre-season.

The starting eleven included many new names and some familiar ones as Nailers boss Lee Attenborough finally had the opportunity to create a squad that is of his own making.

The Nailers found themselves a goal down inside the 2nd minute when Mike Raynor nipped in to slip the ball under Jonathan Hedge in the Belper goal.

Belper needed time to get their game together and after a rather ropey start they soon started to improve. Kevin Bastos had a shot just wide on 12 minutes then a strong penalty shout was waved away when the same player looked to have been brought down.

Curtis Burrows provided an excellent cross that Luke Martin headed over on 45 minutes, however, the Nailers went into the break on level terms when Rio Molyneaux latched on to a Hedge clearance and lob a fine effort over the 'keeper.

The hosts forced the Nailers on the back foot after the break but with Phil Watt and his co defenders in good form, Skegness" opportunities were limited.

The Nailers went ahead on 60 minutes after Kevin Bastos went down following a crunching tackle and this time the referee didn't hesitate in pointing to the spot.

Bastos stepped up to confidently strike the ball in off the post.

Belper rounded off a pleasing afternoon when Ben Rhodes lashed in a loose ball in the last minute.
