Danny South came for his first game after rejoining the Nailers while Alex Troke was included in the number 9 slot, also for the first time. The Nailers were in charge of things throughout the 90 minutes and the only surprise was that their margin of victory wasn’t much greater. The game was played at Pinxton's Welfare Ground.
Rio Molyneaux had a reasonable chance after intercepting a wayward pass, but the Heanor goalkeeper got down to his shot well, and in the 19th minutes James Cadman sped away down the left and almost found Troke running in.
Ben Rhodes crossed in the 24th minute from the other flank and Curtis Burrows put his header just wide of the target. Heanor threatened on occasions but when they had promising free kick opportunities they were usually wasted.
The dangerous Kevin Bastos was brought down when running through on 26 minutes and Burrows wasn’t too far away from netting the opener, but credit to the ‘keeper who held the ball well as it looked destined to creep inside the post.
Cadman hit a good shot from 25 yards that the ‘keeper collected at the second attempt, and the Nailers were getting into their stride and looking more dangerous by the minute. The goal when it came was overdue but was created beautifully by Burrows in the 39th minute and sent Bastos away, and he, cool as you like, took it around the ‘keeper to score.
Soon afterwards Ben Rhodes snatched at a wonderful opportunity to extend the Nailers’ lead just before half time but put the ball over the cross bar.
Substitutions at half time changed the game but if anything Belper created more danger almost every time they went up field. Adam Bessadi has immense talent with the ball at his feet and after a good run in the 52 minute his shot was well saved.
Another substitute Anthony Mackie flicked the ball on for James Cadman to steer home Belper’s second of the afternoon in the 56th minute.
Bastos was running the Heanor defenders ragged and from one opportunity he fed the ball across to Lewis Austin whose first time shot went just the wrong side of the post.
Bastos ran clear again on 65 minutes and should have scored his second of the afternoon but his shot hit the leg of a defender. The game continued in this manner and with better luck/finishing the Nailers could have run up a bigger score, however the nature of the performance was pleasing to the eye for the second game running.
