The Nailers looked strong in the first half and held a deserved 2-0 at the break however Heanor rallied in the second period and were worthy of their draw.

Lewis Austin might have got on to the score sheet in just the 3rd minute, but his effort went straight to the Lions’ ‘keeper.

An impressive start to the game by the Nailers was rewarded when they took the lead in the 16th minute when Jack Edwards’ well struck shot took a deflection past Pierrepont.

Heanor had a chance to strike back in the 22nd minute when the referee awarded the Lions a penalty, however Sleigh’s spot kick was well saved by Kieran Preston.

Belper’s second goal came in the 27th minute when a cross from the left was inadvertently put past his own ‘keeper by a Heanor defender.

Further opportunities came Belper’s way in the 37th minute when Josh Mansell crossed to the unmarked Austin who headed the ball wide of the gaping goal.

Belper Triallist (No 9) skipped past the onrushing ‘keeper on 40 minutes but found the angle too acute for him the find the net.

A resurgent Heanor made life more difficult after the break, and they pulled a goal back on 53 minutes with a fine shot from King 18 yards out.

The Nailers should have restored their lead on 62 minutes after Jack Rogers’ shot bounced off the keeper only for Austin to put the rebound over the goal.

A searching run by Lions' full back Sheena on 71 minutes ended with an excellent cross into the box where Newnham was on hand to prod the ball past Preston.

The remainder of the game was even in terms of possession, but neither team could produce a winner, although a Newnham header did bounce off the top of the Nailers’ cross bar late in the game.
