Alex Peterson’s consolation goal in the 90th minute was scant reward as Belper were outclassed by Stamford AFC who put four past the Nailers, writes Ethan Thatcher

Before kick off the Nailers sat in fourth place whilst promotion hopefuls Stamford occupied fifth place in the Pitching Northern Premier Midlands Division which meant the expectation of a competitive clash.

And for the first ten minutes it was just that, with feisty challenges flying in all over the pitch.

However, as the game unfolded the Daniels started to assert their dominance and were rewarded for their positive start in the 19th minute after Jack Duffy burst through the Nailers’ defence, before he blasted a cross into the six yard box where Harry Vince was on hand to make it 1-0.

Stamford again continued to dominate and found themselves two goals up in the 33rd minute after a Jack Duffy led counter attack resulted in Connor Bartle calmly passing the ball into the bottom right corner from the edge of the box.

In the 44th minute another Daniels counter attack lead to a goal. This time Tendai Chitiza played through Jack Duffy whose deflected shot looped over Lewis Gwilliams which made it 3-0 to the visitors.

The Nailers definitely improved in the second half forcing Danny Haystead to perform several impressive saves.

One of Haystead’s most impressive stops game in the 56th minute after a Karl Demidh free kick just outside the right side of the box seemed destined for the top corner, but the keeper dived quickly to his left clawing the ball away from the goal.

Belper still persevered and were inches away from scoring a spectacular goal in the 81st minute after a teasing in swinging corner from Demidh was cleared to the edge of the box, where substitute Nathan Curtis acrobatically performed a sensational bicycle kick but unfortunately for the Nailers the shot crept over the bar.

Only a minute later Stamford charged forward on another counter attack and this time Michael Frew found himself with time on the edge of the box and the forward calmly smashed his shot into the bottom left corner.

In the 85th minute Belper finally had a chance to get on the score sheet after Jonathon Margetts had his ankle clipped inside the area resulting in a penalty kick for the home side.

Margetts stepped up and had his penalty saved after Haystead quickly got down to his left twice as he also saved the follow up from Alex Peterson.

In the 90th minute the Nailers finally got a goal when Curtis played a great ball through to Peterson who impressively curled the ball beyond the keeper from the edge of the box into the bottom right corner
