The Fenmen came into this game in poor form having lost all 13 of their last league games which meant it came as very little surprise to those in the ground when Peterson opened the scoring for the Nailers in the seventh minute.

A trademark Sam Muggleton long throw was launched to the edge of the box where captain Danny South flicked the ball on to Alex Peterson who spun quickly and fired his shot into the top corner of the goal making it 1-0 to the Nailers.

Belper continued to dominate in this feisty affair which saw three bookings for the Nailers in the opening 30 minutes of the game.

Tom Wilson was one of the players who received an early caution, but he didn’t let that affect his game and in the 20th minute nearly created a second goal of the afternoon.

Wilson played a majestic curled pass through to Brodie Litchfield who beat Harrison Taylor for pace ,on the wing, but Luke Pearson got down quickly at Litchfield’s feet to deny the Nailers a second goal.

As expected Belper continued to dominate this clash and were creating a bucket load of opportunities, however they were still only one goal up.

In the 21st minute Kyle Dixon produced a wonderful corner which was dinked towards the back post were Muggleton came steaming in unmarked, however despite generating a fierce amount of power on the ball the left-back couldn’t find the target and headed over.

Nine minutes later Belper were simply gifted a penalty after Luke Wilson wrestled South to the floor resulting in a spot-kick to the Nailers.

Prince Mancinelli stepped up and smashed his penalty into the bottom right corner making it 2-0 to Belper.

After that second goal Belper’s performance levels started to drop off as 20th place Wisbech began to gain a foothold in the game.

Following a long kick by Pearson, Sam Bennett found himself 1 v 1 with Burton loanee ‘keeper Dan Moore; Bennett smashed his shot towards the top right corner of the goal but Moore was determined not to get beaten and pushed the ball behind for a corner.

Litchfield continued to terrorise the Fenmen’s defence and was very unlucky not have scored in the 35th minute; and following a perfectly timed ball from Peterson.

Litchfield found himself through on goal and the winger even managed to round the keeper before firing his shot towards goal.

However Harrison Taylor got back sensationally and headed the ball off the line and over the bar.

The second half certainly lacked chances, but one was gifted to Wisbech in the 61st minute when Belper captain South pushed over Jack Keeble in the penalty area resulting in another spot-kick.

Fenton stepped up and just like Mancinelli] he smashed his shot into the bottom right corner of the goal which meant we were in for an interesting last 30 minutes of the game.

However, once again following a goal, the intensity of the game seemed to die out with very few chances being created in the final 30 minutes of the contest.

Wisbech did have one final opportunity in the 90th minute when Pearson launched a free kick into the box which caused absolute chaos with several Fenmen players trying to poke the ball home, but Moore was brave and dived onto the ball.

It certainly wasn’t the prettiest performance Belper have produced this season however, it was certainly an important one with this win ensuring Belper remain seven points clear of sixth place Carlton Town coming into the final four games of the season.
