After the bombshell during the week that the league had reverted to relegating two teams, this match took on massive significance with the visitors one place above and knowing that they could all but relegate the Nailers with a victory.
Belper came flying out of the traps and could have taken the lead as early as two minutes in when Honor White fed Freya Wilson but her shot just cleared the crossbar.
Three minutes later Wilson went even closer after Dion Cowen's long ball from the back picked her out, this time the effort crashed off the outside of the post.
However Wilson was not to be denied for long and on 11 minutes she was on hand to rifle home White's flicked on corner and open the scoring.
Within seconds of the restart Wilson was in again after a misplaced pass in the Chesterfield defence however Rhianne Carroll was equal to the shot.
The Nailers doubled their lead on 29 minutes when Wilson collected the ball 25 yards from goal and fired off a great shot which beat Carroll inside the right hand post.
Chesterfield's first real chance came in the 37th minute when Stephanie O'Brien's shot from range bounced just wide of Emma Varnam's goal.
The visitors were right back in things after 48 minutes when a mix-up in the Belper defence allowed Madeline Watkinson to get a shot away which beat Varnam.
The deficit was back to two goals just a minute later when Jess Needham picked out Alice Faulding inside the box and she produced an unstoppable finish across goal into the corner to make it 3-1.
The game looked set for a nervy finish when, in the 78th minute Rebecca Boston tried her luck from range and the ball deflected up in the air, looping down in to the Belper net.
On 89 minutes Wilson tried to secure the points when she won possession before shooting from range but it was just over.
The final action of the match saw Belper make sure of the win when Needham found Wilson who laid the ball across the box for Hollie Thompson. She couldn't make the contact she wanted but the ball fell to Faulding who was never going to miss from the outside of the six yard box.
For Luke Jackson's side it ended a run of nine successive defeats and puts Belper two points from safety with two games remaining.
Only one other game took place in the division on Sunday, with Arnold winning 2-1 at Grimsby Borough.
Belper finish the season with a trip to 3rd place Dronfield next weekend and then a home match against Grimsby Borough who are 5th but only six points ahead of the Nailers with the top three having pulled away from the pack.
