The last time Belper played at Moorways they were defeated 10-6 and when Bethany Jones opened the scoring after barely 30 seconds it looked like another goalfest might be on the cards. Jones provided a finish which went in via a deflection off Maggie Buxton.
However the lead lasted only a couple of minutes as, following some neat passing, Jess Smithurst finished nicely after Mia Carnelley had squared the ball into her path.
Jones had a chance to re-establish the Pride's lead in the fifth minute but Buxton produced a good save.
The home side weren't to be denied for long. On seven minutes Daisy Bowen beat the Belper offside trap and slotted home to make it 2-1.
Bowen nearly had another a couple of minutes later but her long range effort came back off the crossbar.
In the 20th minute a good Belper move involving Smithurst, Evie Jowett and Alice Faulding resulted in a chance for the latter but the shot was just over the bar.
Five minutes later Jowett found Carnelley who brought a great save out of Jade Howell.
On 35 minutes the ever dangerous Jones was in again but shot over.
The final action of the half saw Smithurst intercept a Pride Park pass, running on and trying her luck from range. Howell was equal to both that effort and the one Carnelley produced when the corner was swung in from the left.
The game took a twist five minutes after the break. The referee adjudged there to have been a foul inside the box and Tash Collyer took responsibility from the penalty spot to put the Pride two goals ahead.
In the 67th minute Rachel Weaver shot wide after a corner and within seconds Belper had broken forward and pulled a goal back. Phallon Symcox picked out Liv Froggatt who produced a cool finish to get the Nailers within one.
Fate however had ideas other than a Belper comeback and Pride Park sealed the tie on 71 minutes. After Belper half cleared a corner, Weaver tried her luck from outside the box. The shot took a wicked deflection, leaving Buxton no chance and the deficit was back to two.
Jones's shot with a quarter of an hour remaining went just over the bar and back at the other end, a lovely one-two between Carnelley and Faulding gave the former a chance to force a good save out of Howell.
Belper's final chance to force a nervy finale came with four minutes of normal time remaining when Gee Bestwick's effort from range was initially spilled but then gathered by Howell.
So Pride Park progress to the 3rd Round of the Derbyshire Women's Cup and for the Nailers it's back to league action next weekend with a trip to Notts County Development.
