Belper Town Ladies Reserves put up a brave fight in awful conditions but higher division Amber Valley Ladies ultimately sealed a place in the semi-finals of the DGLL Cup.

The match was played at Belper Leisure Centre on the 4G pitch with a howling northerly wind and showers making the game difficult to control.

The Nailers had the wind behind them in the first half and in truth the first 45 minutes is where virtually all of the match action took place.

Amber Valley started brightly against the wind and scored twice in the sixth minute. Firstly Daisy Chapman prodded home when Belper failed to clear a cross and virtually straight from the restart they won possession and fed Nicola Litchfield-Shaw who produced a nice finish from 22 yards to double Amber Valley's lead.

It was 0-3 on nine minutes when Litchfield-Shaw struck again from just outside the box.

Belper regrouped and were back in the match after 12 minutes when Emma Curle curled in a stunning free kick from range. The Belper centre back would go on to share the Player of the Match award.

The Nailers were close to getting within one goal in the 16th minute when Georgina Lowe's cross was met by captain Olivia Froggatt, her header crashed back off the crossbar.

The visitors punished Belper on 22 minutes when Rhiannon Selby found herself through on goal; she rounded Amy Taft and scored to make it 1-4.

Litchfield-Shaw tried her luck from range in the 35th minute but Taft was able to watch it go wide.

Three minutes later it was 1-5 when Selby found Isabella Long who produced a nice chipped finish.

Two minutes before the break Curle produced another great set-piece but this time it was saved by Kyrie Straw.

Straight from the clearance Selby ran clear to score Amber Valley's sixth.

In first half injury time Belper gave themselves a glimmer of hope when Curle's corner was headed in at the back post by Louise Hawley.

The second half produced very little but the home side were much improved and defended well against the wind which was a 12th player for both teams when they had it in their favour.

Litchfield-Shaw brought a good save out of Taft on 66 minutes and ten minutes later a throw-in found Chapman who spun nicely and struck a nice shot which again was saved by Taft who shared the Player of the Match award with Curle and left-back Gina Lowe.

Two minutes from time came the final goal when confusion in the Belper defence allowed Laura Lowe to chip home.

An eighth goal nearly came in stoppage time when Litchfield-Shaw headed a corner on to the post.
