Ladies Reserves Plate campaign ends at semi-final stage

Chris Nelson10 Mar - 09:18

Belper Town Ladies Reserves competed in their first ever Cup semi-final but their depleted squad came home from Moorways disappointed as Allenton United won comfortably.

Midfielder Hannah Dutton was absent having picked up an injury in last week's quarter-final where she impressed and her midfield partner Jess Burke was also unavailable along with captain Olivia Froggatt.

The first chance went to Belper on three minutes when Elisha Billyeald's cross was only half cleared as far as Nancy Frostick and her shot just cleared the bar.

A minute later Amy Taft, who would go on to pull off several key and brave saves was called into action for the first time when Georgia Loveless cut in from the left and forced the Belper 'keeper to tip the ball over for a corner.

Loveless would go on to net the first of her many in the sixth minute when she opened the scoring after Belper were unable to clear the ball and Gina Oliver laid the ball into her path.

Within a couple of minutes it was two as a great through ball from Shanie Oliver found Gina Oliver who rounded Taft to score.

The Nailers were back in things on 10 minutes when a precise pass from Gina Lowe picked out Frostick who provided a nice finish to reduce the arrears.

The scores were nearly levelled in the 12th minute when when Emma Gotheridge picked out Billyeald but her shot across the face of goal went narrowly wide.

Some great passing play on 14 minutes between Frostick, Billyeald and Gotheridge resulted in a shooting opportunity for the latter but again it was just wide, however Belper were much improved.

In the 21st minute Taft produced another great save after S. Oliver's pass to Shannon Tunstall provided her with some space to get a shot away.

Belper equalised after 28 minutes when substitute Ruby Tristram nipped in to intercept a short back pass and slotted home.

Parity lasted only six minutes when Loveless's pass into the path of Gina Oliver allowed her to produce a nice touch and finish off the post.

In the 35th minute Allenton restored their two goal lead when a long ball evaded the Belper defence and Loveless was on hand to score again.

Loveless completed her hat trick on 38 minutes when she was played in on goal and Taft was out to block well but the luck wasn't with her as the Allenton striker slotted home the rebound.

Belper went straight on the attack trying to get back into the match and five minutes before the break Tristram tried her luck following a mazy run but the shot was over the bar.

Taft saved Belper again in the final action of the first half when she rushed out to save after S. Oliver was played through.

S. Oliver tried her luck from a free kick in the 48th minute but Taft palmed it wide.

In the 51st minute Allenton gave the Nailers a mountain to climb when Loveless brought down a cross from the right and fired home.

On 56 minutes Holly Wright's corner found the head of Ellie Froggatt but it was just wide.

A couple of minutes later Allenton made it 7-2 when a cross fell into the path of Loveless who scored her easiest goal of the afternoon from close range.

The 73rd minute saw Loveless score again, Taft again saving from the one-on-one but the ball falling into the path of the player in red once again.

With seven minutes remaining, Loveless tried her luck from range but Taft was equal to it.

The final goal came ten minutes from time when Loveless won possession before slotting home into the corner of the net.

The last match action saw Loveless's pass reach G. Oliver but her shot was over.

There was still time for a dog to make its way on to the pitch, unlike Allenton he did not have a lead but Belper defender Cara Kington was in her element with the new arrival! A ruff day at the office for Belper but a pawsitive result for Allenton.

A spirited display from the Nailers with several important players missing in the middle of the park.

Allenton go on to face Hatton in the final and we wish them the best of luck.
