Belper Town won a nail-biting contest against play off rivals Leek Town with goal from leading scorer Jon Froggatt deep into added on time, and now a win in the final game against New Mills will see the Nailers compete for a promotion place.
Belper Town were swept away by a Derby County side that started with 10 players who had figured in the Championship this season, but the Nailers can be proud of the resistance they put up and the three goals they scored.
It was another night of disappointment for the Nailers who crashed to their fourth league defeat in successive league games, but their performance at the South Kesteven Stadium warranted at least a share of the points.
After a first half in which Belper had been out-thought and outplayed by a very impressive Stamford outfit, Peter Duffield’s half time tactical substitutions provided the platform for the Nailers to produce a spirited fight back.
Belper Town navigated their way safely through to the second qualifying round of the FA Carlsberg Trophy, but their victory in Bedfordshire was just about the only memorable aspect of this untidy match.
